Does anyone ever age naturally? The Basics of Botox.

There I was a typical night at home after a day at work, and the work continued. I hop on a Zoom call for a webinar where instead of listening to the content of the incredibly qualified presenters, I am staring at my face and noticing every single etched-in line or shadow on my face that wasn't always there. Can anyone else relate?

It got me thinking, in a world where change is the only constant, and the desire to put our best face forward, what's the real story behind this modern elixir of youth?

So, for the ladies (and gents!) who've ever peered into a magnifying mirror and contemplated the mysteries of Botox, let's start from the beginning. What is it, anyway?

Botox, known scientifically as Botulinum toxin, is basically a muscle relaxer. Originally used for treating eye disorders, it's now the hottest ticket to smooth out those pesky wrinkles that seem to sneak up on us as the years go by.
The process is simple enough: a tiny amount of Botox (or any neurotoxin, Dysport, Xeomin, Daxxify) is injected into specific muscles, causing them to relax, thereby reducing or eliminating fine lines and wrinkles. Making those Zoom calls a little less taunting.

You may be thinking "Why would anyone inject poison into their face?" While it's true that it is technically a toxin, when administered in the right quantities by trained professionals, it’s considered safe. Also, unlike when we first started injecting it for cosmetic purposes, it is NOT meant to freeze your face. It simply softens the muscles, so you can still laugh, cry, and express shock when warranted.

You may also be asking yourself "What if I get a droopy eyelid?" Like with every medication there are side effects with Botox, mostly minor bruising or a headache, and in very very rare cases an eyelid droop (but seemingly that is the side effect everyone knows about). If any of these do happen they're temporary and can often be minimized, so let the provider know.

As for the price? Well, it's not as expensive as surgery but it's not pocket change either.  My thought -  whether it's Botox, a new pair of shoes, or a new hairstyle, it's all about feeling our best. Right?

In the quest for eternal youth, the modern-day conundrum seems to be: to Botox or not to Botox? Isn't it the journey of life that keeps us forever young? Whether you do it with or without the help of Botox is up to you.

And to be clear, the only beauty standard you should hold yourself to is your own.

Cheers to good health,
